How to Enable Two Factor Authentication for cPanel

• Before you start to building your website you need to improve your security measures.

  Two-Factor Authentication is an improved security measure that requires two forms of identification: your password and a generated security code. When Two-Factor Authentication is enabled, an application on a smartphone supplies a code you must enter with your password to log in.

  We highly recommend you enable this feature for stronger security measures, and it reduces fraud and builds secure online relationships.

  This guide will show you how to secure your cPanel login by enabling Two-Factor Authentication in just a few easy steps.
  

  When you are ready to proceed, simply login to your account at www.mweb.co.za and follow along.
  
  

• If you’re not sure how to log in you can follow the steps in this guide.

• Two-Factor Authentication requires a smartphone with a supported time-based one-time password (TOTP) app. We suggest the following apps, depending on your personal preference and Mobile Operating System

  Navigate to My Products

  Once you are logged in click on My Products from the menu bar.

  Find your Capped Hosting Product

  Scroll down to find your Hosting product

  You will need to sign onto cPanel to complete setting up 2-factor authentication

  Your Cpanel username and password would have been sent to you via SMS as part of the sign up process

  If you are unsure what they are you can click on the Cog top open the settings screen and view them under the Access Details section

  When you have your login details you can proceed to the next step

  Enable Two-Factor Authentication

  Expand the Enable Two-Factor Authentication Section and click on Enable

  Once you are logged in, scroll down to the security section and Select Two-factor Authentication
  

  On the following screen click on Set Up Two-Factor Authentication

  Download and familiarize yourself with a Two Factor application

  Before you can link your cPanel Account you will need to download and install one of the recommended two factor authentication apps on your Smart Phone

  Link your cPanel account and your Two-Factor Authentication app

  To automatically create the link, scan the displayed QR code with your app

  To manually create the link, enter the provided Account and Key information in your app.
  

  Retrieve code

  To confirm the association you will be prompted for a six-digit code provided by the Authenticator App

  Each code the App generates is only valid for 30 seconds and you will see a timer counting down next to the code.

  Enter the six digit code and hit Configure Two-Factor Authentication

  (if there isn’t enough time left on the clock just wait for that code to expire and use the fresh one when the next 30 seconds starts.)

  Once you have successfully configured two-factor authentication you will see the green banner on cPanel

  When accessing cPanel you will now be asked for a security code.

  Which you can retrieve from the corresponding entry in your Authenticator App

• Two-Factor Authentication supports only one concurrent session for any user. If you open several browser windows to cPanel and log out in one of them, the server will log out in all of the windows.

  If you no longer wish to use two-factor authentication (not recommended), or you wish to change to a different code generator you can return to the screen and use the Reconfigure, or Remove Options and follow the prompts
