How to Stay Safe Online With Mweb

  • In today’s digital world, the risk of phishing scams, malware, and data breaches is ever-present, making online security more crucial than ever. Mweb is committed to helping you stay safe online, and by following a few essential tips, you can protect your personal information and secure your Mweb account.

  • How to Spot Phishing Scams

Phishing scams aim to trick you into sharing sensitive information like passwords or banking details by posing as legitimate emails. To avoid falling for these scams, keep the following in mind:

    • Mweb will never ask for your password. Whether via email, phone, or chat, Mweb will never request your login details. Any such request is a clear red flag.
    • Mweb no longer sends invoice emails. You can access all invoices through the Mweb App or by logging into your account online. If you receive an email with an invoice attachment, it’s likely a phishing attempt.
    • Verify the sender’s email address. Mweb will only send communications from a “@mweb.com” domain. If the address doesn’t match, it’s likely a scam.
  • To ensure your Mweb account is protected, follow these simple steps:

    • Enable spam filtering. Spam filters block most phishing emails before they reach your inbox. Make sure your Mweb spam filter is active to minimise exposure to these threats.
    • Change your password regularly. It’s important to update your password regularly. If you’ve used the same password for years, it could be vulnerable to hacking. Regular updates will help keep your account secure.
    • Keep your OTP (One-Time Password) number updated. Your OTP provides extra protection for your account. Always make sure your contact details are current to avoid disruptions.
  • Beyond securing your Mweb account, adopting smart online habits can further protect you from cyber threats. Here are some key practices:

    • Use unique passwords across different websites. Don’t reuse passwords on multiple platforms. If one account is compromised, it could put others at risk. You can also create an alias email for online sign-ups to protect your primary account.
    • Hover over links before clicking. Always hover your mouse over links in emails to check where they lead before clicking. Phishing emails often disguise malicious links under legitimate-looking text.
    • Be careful with personal information. Before sharing sensitive details like banking information, verify the recipient’s authenticity by calling or messaging them through a secure platform.
  • What to Do If You Suspect a Breach

If you think your account has been compromised, take immediate action by changing your password.

By following these tips, you can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to online threats.

    Phishing Sample 1

Phishy messages often have a subject that makes them seem urgent. Keywords like Security, Billing, Payment and many others are used.
Always check the sender e-mail address. Mweb would only send an official communication from a @mweb.com e-mail address
If you're still not sure, move your mouse pointer over (hover) the link and you will find it does not point to a mweb page
